How does therapy work?
Our initial sessions will serve as an opportunity for us to familiarize ourselves with each other. Following 1-2 sessions, I will craft a personalized treatment plan tailored to your objectives. This plan will offer structure, a roadmap, and clarity about what to anticipate as we collaborate.
The treatment plan will zero in on your goals, identifying any obstacles hindering progress, outlining strategies to overcome these challenges, and establishing criteria for gauging when you may consider concluding therapy.
Should our collaboration not align well or if you require a different therapist or treatment approach, I am equipped to provide referrals to other professionals or suggest alternative therapeutic modalities that may better suit your needs.
How long does therapy last?
Certain individuals find value in brief therapy (1-4 sessions) or short-term therapy (3-6 months) to address specific concerns. Alternatively, long-term therapy (6-12 months or more) may be more beneficial for those dealing with complex issues.
The frequency of sessions is flexible, ranging from weekly to bi-weekly or monthly, depending on individual preferences. Typically, therapy is initially structured weekly or bi-weekly, gradually transitioning to less frequent sessions as needed. The scheduling and duration of therapy are collaboratively determined, creating an individualized plan tailored to your unique needs.
How long does each therapy session take?
Therapy sessions last 50-60 minutes each.
How should I prepare for therapy?
Consider whether therapy aligns with your needs or if other alternatives such as coaching, support groups, courses, workshops, or retreats might be more suitable.
Define achievable goals and set realistic expectations for your therapeutic journey.
Pinpoint the key qualities you value in a therapist, including their approach, style, identity, age, personality, cultural background, values, beliefs, training, fees, and insurance preferences.
Evaluate your financial capacity for out-of-pocket therapy expenses monthly, or decide if you prefer to utilize insurance coverage.
Exercise patience, acknowledging that progress may take several sessions to become apparent.
Maintain open communication with your therapist, providing honest feedback about what is or isn't helpful in your sessions.
Implement and practice therapeutic skills, tools, and assigned homework outside of your sessions, such as journaling, confronting fears, establishing daily practices, and challenging unhelpful thoughts.
Come prepared for sessions with specific topics you wish to discuss or explore.
Recognize that finding the right therapist is a personalized process, as there are diverse therapy types and practitioners with varying personalities, styles, approaches, and cultural backgrounds. Seek someone with whom you feel comfortable communicating openly and honestly.
What is your attendance and cancellation policy?
Kindly ensure cancellations are made at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled appointment to avoid being charged the full session fee. Missed appointments or failure to cancel within the specified timeframe will result in the full session fee being applied. No-shows, without prior communication, will also incur the full fee.
Please be mindful that when an appointment is set, the allocated time is reserved for you. Punctuality is expected, and tardiness may result in a shortened session. If you are over 15 minutes late, the session will be canceled, treated as a no-show, and the full fee will be charged. If you anticipate lateness, communication is crucial, and the therapist will determine if the session can proceed.
Consistent cancellation of two consecutive appointments may lead to a potential loss of your spot on our caseload. Your understanding and cooperation are appreciated.
